BIOGRAPHY —
섬세하며 드라마틱한 지휘 테크닉으로 다양한 작품에 생명력을 불어넣으며 깊이있는 음악의 메신저라는 평가를 받으며 끊임없는 도전과 열정으로 음악세계를 펼치고 있는 지휘자 서진은 음악가들에게 사랑받는 지휘자이다. 2020년 문화체육관광부 문화예술발전유공자 “오늘의 젊은 예술가상” 장관상을 수여받으며 인정을 받은 그는 일찍이 잘츠부르크 모차르테움 국립음대에 유학하여 스위스 바젤 국립음악대학원 첼로전공 최고전문연주자과정을 최우수성적으로 졸업하고 베를린 한스 아이슬러 국립음악대학원 지휘과 Christian Ehwald, Hans-Dieter Baum교수를 사사하며 최우수성적으로 졸업하였다.
세계일보 음악콩쿠르 첼로부문 대상, 제40회 동아음악콩쿠르 첼로부문 1위, 2007년 한국인 최초로 크로아티아 제4회 Lovro von Matačić 국제지휘콩쿠르에서 Papandopulo 현대음악상을 수상하여 ‘진지한 음악적 해석과 테크닉이 뛰어나다’는 평가를 받았다.
유럽의 2015~2016년 한국·불란서 수교 130주년 기념음악회에서 불란서 Essentiels #5 Paris-Séoul Orchestre de Bretagne, 세계각지에서 열린 ONE MONTH Festival 개막연주, The Best of the Ensemble OPUS, 체코 North Czech Philharmony, 폴란드 Gorzowska Philharmonic, 독일 Brandenburger Symphoniker, Luebeck Philharmonisches Orchester, Konzerthausorchester Berlin, Brandenburgisches Staatsorchester Frankfurt, 크로아티아 Zagreb 방송교향악단, 러시아 St. Petersburg State Capella Symphony등과 연주하며 해외무대에서 행보를 이어오며 국내에서도 KBS교향악단, 서울시립교향악단, 부천필하모닉오케스트라, 코리안심포니오케스트라, 대구시립교향악단, 부산시립교향악단, 광주시립교향악단 등과 KBS Classic FM 개국 35주년 기념음악회, 예술의전당 기획 교향악축제, 한화 11시 콘서트, 토요콘서트, 토마토클랫식 기획콘서트, 대학오케스트라 페스티벌 등을 지휘하며 활발한 무대들을 쌓아왔다.
2014년부터 2022년까지 과천시립교향악단 지휘자로서 수준높은 연주력으로 시민들과 소통하며 문화예술도시로 발전시키는데에 기여했으며 2019년에는 국내 젊은 지휘자로는 처음으로 과천시립교향악단과 S. Rachmaninoff Symphony No.2 in e minor, Op.27 음반<Sony Label>을 출반하였다.
현재, 그는 헤이리국제음악제의 음악감독으로 한국, 독일, 미국, 러시아의 최정상연주자들과 함께 큰 반향을 일으키며 음악제를 매해 성황리에 개최 중이며, 계명대학교 음악공연예술대학 관현악과 전임교수로서 후학양성에 힘쓰고 있으며, CROSS CHAMBER ORCHESTRA 상임지휘자, 파주 헤이리예술마을 음악감독, 챔버앙상블 에이블뮤직그룹 음악감독, Bring Up International 홍보대사로 활동하고 있다.

Recognized as a “free-spirited messenger” for his delicate and fine baton technique along with passion and profound interpretation to music, Jin Suh infuses vitality and sincerity into the notes as well as the musicians who performs them. As the Music Director of The Gwacheon Philharmonic Orchestra from 2014 through 2022 he was embraced by the musicians and the community for his commendatory stages and contribution in successfully enhancing classical arts into the region.
Born in Seoul (South Korea), Jin Suh furthered his studies abroad at Mozarteum (Salzburg) and Hanns-Eisler School of Music (Berlin) with Christian Ehwald and Hans-Dieter Baum. He graduated with honors, cum laude and went onto win numerous awards such as 1st place in Segye-Ilbo Music Competition (Seoul), 1st place in Dong-A Music Competition (Seoul) and was honored as the first of a Korean-nationality to be given the ‘Special Award’ at The 4th Lovro von Matacic International Competition (Croatia). He was also a semi-finalist at the Dmitri Mitropoulos International Conducting Competition (Greece).
At a young age Jin Suh was selected as one of the four new leading conductors at The 8th Berlin Interactive Conducting Workshop. He received many praise for his thorough analysis and deep understanding of the composer and written work by the Critical Orchestra, which is a very critical group formed by principal members of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, Konzerthaus Orchestra, Dresden Staatskapelle along with 20 other leading orchestras in Germany.
In addition to his permanent positions, Jin Suh is in high demand as guest conductor both in his native country and abroad. In 2015~2016 he conducted the Orchestre Symphonique de Bretagne at the 130th Anniversary for France-Korea Diplomatic Relations. He was also invited to perform with The North Czech Philharmonic, The Gorzowska Philharmonic, The Brandenburger Symphoniker, The Luebeck Symphony, The Zagreb Radio Broadcasting Orchestra and the St.Petersburg State Capella Symphony. In Korea he has returned to the stage often with the Seoul Philharmonic, KBS Symphony Orchestra, Bucheon Philharmonic, Korean Symphony, Daegu Philharmonic, Jeju Philharmonic, Gwangju Philharmonic and The Korean Senior Symphony Orchestra. His extensive discography also includes the opening of the ONE MONTH FESTIVAL, the 35th Anniversary Concert for KBS Classic FM radio, the world-premiere of Jeajoon Rhyu’s Sinfonietta per Archi with Ensemble OPUS and the korean-premiere of Gyorgy Ligeti’s Chamber Concerto for 13 Instrumentalists at The Daegu International Contemporary Music Festival.
Jin Suh’s extraordinary presence on stage and connection with the audience comes not only with his insight to the art of music itself but also in his compassion for humanity. It is evident in his continued works with Able Music Group and Hello SEM Orchestra(group for the disabled students), Honorary Ambassador for Bring-Up International(non-profit NGO).
Jin Suh also immerses himself in teaching young minds as a full-time Professor at Keimyung University (College of Music and Performing Arts) and is the Conductor for Cross Chamber Orchestra, Heyri Chamber Orchestra and holds the position of Artistic Director for The Heyri International Music Festival since 2020.
